Meeting Meetro, The Future of IM?
Meetro just sent me an Alpha test copy of their location dependent IM (instant messaging) software. It has functionality similar to any other IM client (AIM, Yahoo IM, ICQ, Gtalk) with the added bonus of being a social tool as well. It includes a location tool, that lets you see who else is on the network near your location. Bringing another web 2.0 feature to the IM world. Real world socialization. Many other sites have brought social interaction to the web, Blogger, Orkut, Friendster, My Space, etc. they all alow people to post personal information and interact. This adds the instantaneous nature of IM to the mix. It will be interesting to see what effect this has on the IM and social network space.
As for the Mac version Alpha Test... so far it works quite well. I have not attempted to hook it up to my other IM clients so I do not know if this has been included in this iteration of the Mac client. There has been some issues with my profile "sticking". I have tried posting several profile sets at one time, and I loose some of the details, but interactivity seems to be fully functional. The profile issue is solved by just posting each detail individually.
Conclusion...Thumbs up!
